Saved by the Blood

Been asking the Lord about the meaning of His blood. I see that physical entities possess a spiritual counterpart.

So what is the meaning of such passages as “justified by His blood”(Rom 5:9), “Christ’s blood cleanses our conscience from dead works to serve the living God” (Heb 9:14), “Purchased by His blood” (Acts 20:28)

In the Old Testament animals blood was spilled out all day as atonement for the sins of the people. (Ex 29:36) Though we are told later…it could never forgive our sins. (Heb 10:4)
Yet, without shedding of blood there is no remission. (Heb 9:22)

The Israelites were commanded to pour out the blood of all hunted animals. They were not to eat it, “for it is the life of all flesh.” Blood sustains the physical life of man. (Lev 17:13-14)

Jesus Christ’s flesh and blood simulated ours. By the power of His Holy Spirit He took it to the cross and poured it out on the ground. Emptying His flesh of all its power. The Holy Spirit overcame it. (John 10:18)

So what is the spiritual counterpart of Christ’s physical blood? The Holy Spirit.

The Spirit is life.(Rom 8:9-11)

What brings the spirit of man to life…but the Spirit of God. (2Co 3:4-6)

The cross killed the life of the flesh(power of sin). The blood being poured out. The resurrection is the birth of a spiritual life through the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ. (1Pet 2:23-24)
And (John 14:16-18)

When Jesus announced that He would be crucified and raised on the third day Peter tried to stop him. (Matt 16:22) Jesus then addresses him as Satan. Why? Because in that moment Peter is tempting Jesus to be led by his flesh. The very thing Jesus is about to empty himself of. Jesus is longing to be rid of the flesh. Anticipating our life in the Spirit. And our freedom from the flesh, which is the only thing which separates us from Him.

Pour out the blood, which is life to the flesh. Pour in the Holy Spirit, which is life to the spirit. (2Co 5:16-17)

When we sing songs in church about the crucifixion of Jesus, the shedding of His blood. I no longer weep over how my sin drove Him there. I smile, sing in my heart, and laugh out loud…that the power of His magnificent love saved me. I touch my ears and tremble with joy for the sound of His voice.

Love….
