I hear Christians often say, “I want to know the reason why God put me here. I want to know His calling for my life.” — as if it were a mystery. When it’s really just worldly passions blended with knowledge of God. A sour drink. We want to be somebody—more than know Somebody.
Jesus gave that up. Laid it all down. He didn’t come to win the world—but through obedience to God—save the people in it. It was all about the people…the person. Who are the people you are stepping over in order to be somebody…rather than know Somebody?
Jesus wasn’t confused about why He was here, or what His calling was. He didn’t pursue dreams, stability, or happiness according to the impulses of human nature. He sacrificed all that in humility, and went for the joy of eternal life—counting Himself as nothing. N O T H I N G—For the joy set before Him.
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 1:2-4
